The Life Saving Jesus

John 10:10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

A life lived for self has no spiritual value, no matter how long it is. A life lived for Jesus is precious, no matter how short it is. A life lived for self is lost. A life lived for Jesus is saved. He does not just want to save souls. He wants to save lives. If He just wanted to save souls, He would save them and instantly take them to Heaven. The life-saving Jesus is the One that many reject or resist. They are willing to trust a Jesus who will take them to Heaven someday if He will just leave their lives unchanged here and now. They are willing to trust a Jesus that exists only in their imagination. Even some Christians resist the changes that Jesus wants to make in their lives. The Christians that are the most mature, the most fruitful and the most joyful are those that permit Him to make the most changes in their lives. Lost souls do not see the value of a life surrendered to Jesus here and now. Carnal Christians only get occasional tastes of that kind of life. Wise and mature Christians like Paul know that their flesh is carnal and make every effort to keep it under control.

Romans 7:14: For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 8:7: Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

1 Corinthians 9:27: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

There are many truths that appear in just one, two or three of the gospels. This one appears in all four. I think the Lord is trying to tell us something.

Matthew 16:25: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Mark 8:35: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel*s, the same shall save it.

Luke 9:24: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

John 12:25: He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
